First I noticed an adult Pied Butcherbird (you can see it here) who took a liking to sitting outside my bedroom on the deck railing. A great observation point in which to check out the reserve below with its fat worms, bugs and other small critters living in the grass. Now it has returned with two young ones in tow and this is one of them. While the adult is black and white the young are brown. They are known to be very friendly to humans and I find their boldness amusing, they sit on the window ledge of my room and peer inside, studying me as if I am a specimen in a zoo (those poor animals I always say!). It is very hot here now and I have placed a large shallow bowl at one end of the deck and morning and night all three come down and take a bath, its important to be placing water out for the wildlife at this time of year and even the kangaroos have wandered up and taken a drink.
