Photographed this lovely Currawong early yesterday morning while it hunted for breakfast from the top of a small gumtree. The Currawongs are large birds with a distinctive yellow eye ring, there are three varieties in Australia, this one is a Pied Currawong (41-51cms), it has more white underneath and on the tail than the Black Currawong (46-48cm) that lives only in Tasmania. The Grey Currawong comes in as the largest (45-53cm) and lives across the south-western part of Australia.
