an Australia Day icon

Well its Australia Day today so fittingly I am posting one of my favourite animals the kangaroo, which also happens to be one of the iconic symbols of Australia. This one is a female and you can just see the legs of a young joey in her pouch – they often go in head first and only legs stick out!

It is incredibly hot and muggy here, the sound of cicadas is deafening, kangaroos are lying in the shade of the trees and the nature reserve, filled with eucalyptus, she-oaks and banksia is shimmering blue in the heat – and its only heading towards mid-morning! Happy day Australia, while we celebrate our nation lets be sure to remember our Indigenous people who lived here thousands of years before the white-man arrived as well as all the peoples that have since immigrated here to call Australia home. It is our acceptance of one another that makes us one of the most culturally diverse countries on the planet and the most peaceful.

Namaste

Well Happy Australia day to you! I have always wanted to visit Australia but I will never be able to because I would never, ever leave my pets – but visiting your blog is the next best thing. 😉
