my favourite roo

Kangaroos are the most gentle creatures and the devoted mothers are amoung my favourites, they happily carry their young around in a ‘pillowcase’ pouch where they are kept warm and dry in the first months of their lives. This pose of the joey is a common one as those long legs need a periodic stretch.

Captured at Emerald Beach, north coast of NSW.

Hi Margo – I’m loving your photos, especially this one of the kangaroo and those legs coming from her pouch! I’ve not seen anything like that. Are you able to get close to them?

I am very fortunate that I live near a coastal nature reserve and there are lots of kangaroos, you can walk right by them as long as you practice kangaroo protocol. I adore them they are so gentle and wonderful parents.

They must be very patient moms. That looks a bit uncomfortable…for both of them.
