The Blue-Winged Kookaburra is a bold visitor to the verandah of this Sydney home. They often nest in the nearby trees and their loud chuckling laughs, often made in unison, fill the air with happy sounds.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before– how fabulous! I loved the little song when I was a kid… “kookaburra sits on the ol’ gum tree, eatin’ all the gumdrops he can see… “
They are great birds, your childhood song is a little different to the one sung here- kookaburras eat lizards and other small animals and are quite hardened killers.. its not a pretty sight seeing them impale a blue-tongue baby lizard on a branch! ‘Gumdrops’ gives them a much gentler disposition!! 😀
Thanks for showing us what a kookaburra is. I’ve always loved the sound of its name, but don’t think I’d ever seen one before!
WOW .. glad to be of service.. they are lovely birds but quite aggressive when killing lizards etc for dinner
Lovely photos. Caption is appreciated and nicely written too.
I like to give a little info if time permits as I love to read the same on other posts.. tx for visiting
