the little egret
This Little Egret was catching small fish caught in a shallow pond on the mudflats as the tide fell around Narrabeen Lagoon in Sydney. They are small white herons of about 56 cm with black legs and a black bill with yellow face. This one had some long plumes on the back, head and breast that indicate it was ready for breeding. They walk with a high-stepping daintiness and then run jerkily when chasing the fish and this little fellow was getting quite a feed.
